Things to Do

Carpinteria is the home of the Avocado Festival or "AvoFest," as it is also known. For more than 30 years, Carpinteria has hosted this family-friendly free event, one of the largest in California, with over 80 musical acts performing each year on four different stages. The Avocado Festival functions as a tribute to Santa Barbara, the third largest avocado producer in North America, with Carpinteria being a significant contributor.

Fitness buffs look forward to the Carpinteria Triathlon to test their skills in a fun way that benefits multiple organizations. The triathlon is great for seasoned and novice triathletes with a challenging but fun course that navigates the foothills and neighborhoods of Carpinteria.

Of course, like all Santa Barbara cities, Carpinteria boasts a few fantastic beaches between Carpinteria City Beach and Carpinteria State Park Beach. The city beach has been named the "World's Safest Beach" and California's #1 swimming beach because of its Southern exposure and Channel Islands protection. As one of the country's top ten beaches, the gradual incline significantly reduces the chances of riptides, making it ideal for swimmers.

The state park beach is better for surfers and those who like exploring tidepools. Harbor seals and dolphins frequent the area along with the occasional gray whale. The Carpinteria Seal Sanctuary is near here. A short bike ride along the Coastal Vista Trail brings you out to the lookout points, where you can see the harbor seals sunbathing on the shore. This seal rookery is one of the remaining along the southern California coast.
